Angelo Fatta Obituary
August 18, 1916 - March 14, 2010
Resided in (B) Amherst, NY
Angelo served with the Buffalo Police Department from 1945 to 1978 and retired with the rank of Detective. In 1970 he was the founding president of the Italian American Police Association of WNY. Over the year the organization has grown to over 200 law enforcement officers.
Upon retirement from the Buffalo Police Department he served as a Federal Police Officer at the VA Hospital from 1978 to 1988. In addition to directing traffic and providing security at the hospital, he was frequently seen visiting the wounded vets and providing aid, comfort and encouragement. As a wounded vet himself, he understood their pain.
During the period of 1949 to 1973 he co-owned The Front Park and LaSalle Park Refreshment stands where his pizza burgers, pepper and egg sandwiches and Italian sausage sandwiches were legendary.
From 1988 until 2001 he worked at his son's former business, ACTS Testing Labs where he assisted in a variety of ways, not the least of which was being the company's goodwill ambassador to employees and clients.
Angelo was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In 1994 he traveled to France and Belgium on the 50th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion and was honored by the French Government in a special ceremony in the French city of Caen with the battle of Normandie Medal.
He is survived by four sons, Angelo (Carol), Robert(Camille), Thomas (Rosalba Mucciarella) and Michael; nine grandchildren, Rob, John, Joanne (Dennis Ciccone), Jennifer (Paul Darling), Suzanne (Michael Benner), Christopher, Alessio, Olivia and Gianluca; one great-grandson, Dominic Ciccone; brother of Nena Fatta and the late Gasper (Mary), Carlo (Catherine), Joseph, Santo, Anthony (Helen), Ernest, and Eugene; brother-in-law of Josephine, Jean, Anne, Rose Fatta; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was known throughout the area as a gentleman and for his humor, fortitude, love of the Yankees, strength and good looks. He was said to be a real man's man and attracted all with his open, humble and generous personality.
The family will be present Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the (Delaware Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1132 Delaware Avenue (near W.
