Electra M. Klager, of Depew, a beautician and government employee, died Monday in Elderwood Health Care at Cheektowaga. She was 93.

Born in the Bronx, the former Electra Pawlitschko graduated from Kensington High School and operated a hair salon on Bailey Avenue in her parents’ home across from Police Precinct 16.

The mother of two, she later was a clerk in the Erie County Department of Motor Vehicles for 20 years. Working in the Northtown Plaza office, she took driver's license photos.

“She would always tell the people that they looked like movie stars,” her son David said.

Her husband, Royden H. Klager, was Cheektowaga Democratic chairman and she was active in the party, serving on various committees and fundraisers. She attended state Democratic conventions and was acquainted with Gov. Hugh Carey and Gov. Mario Cuomo. She was the one of the first women to be an officer for the State Liquor Authority.

She also was an entertainer in dinner-theater productions at Jocko’s Supper Club with Jackie Jocko and other performers.

Her husband, a personnel manager for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, died in 1979.

Survivors include a son, David; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 950 Losson Road, Cheektowaga.
