STETTER - JOHN H.
May 12, 2017 at age 91. Beloved husband of 62 years to the late Florence L. (nee Bissonette) Stetter; devoted father of Eileen (late Roger) Smith, Dennis (Karen) Stetter and Maureen Stetter; loving grandfather of nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; dear brother of the late Joseph, Francis, Gerard, William and Mary Ann; also survived by nieces and nephews. The family will be present on Tuesday from 4-8 PM at (Cleveland Hill Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 569 Cleveland Drive, where prayers will be offered on Wednesday at 8:45 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated from St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church at 9:30 AM. John H. Stetter, a decorated Army veteran of World Ward II, died at his Buffalo home Friday at the age of 91.

He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Stetter was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery while serving in the U.S. Army in the Central Europe and Rhineland campaigns of World War II.

He grew up in the city's Kensington area and studied machine shop at Seneca Vocational High School.

Mr. Stetter was employed by the R.G. Wright Co. for one year before his military service. He worked as a sheet metal fabricator for Sylvania for 23 years and as a shop foremen for NuMade Products for 15 years. After retiring at the age of age 66, he continued to work as a consultant for NuMade for several years.

A member of Buffalo's former Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Edison Street before it closed in 2009, Mr. Stetter served as one of its parish trustees, host of its pre-Cana conference, chairman of its Catholic Charities campaign for 30 years, as a marshal for its Holy Name Society and as a parish usher.

In 2002 he was presented a St. Joseph the Worker award by Bishop Henry J. Mansell.

After the Edison Street church closed he became a parishioner at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church.

Mr. Stetter was married to the former Florence L. Bissonette for 62 years before she died in 2009.

He is survived by two daughters, Eileen Smith and Maureen Stetter, a son, Dennis Stetter, and 9 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 17 at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church, 157 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga.
