Beloved husband of Annette (nee Testa); devoted father of Kathleen (Nyle Jenkins) Karneth; cherished grandfather of Julian Jenkins; also survived by three brothers and a sister. David was a U.S. Navy veteran and a Certified Public Accountant for over 45 years. He worked as a controller for City Mattress and a regional C.P.A. manager for many businesses. The family would like to thank Hospice Buffalo for their wonderful support and care during this time. No prior visitation. Services will be held at a later date.

David A. Karneth, of Amherst, a certified public accountant for more than 40 years, died Monday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga. He was 74.

Born in Buffalo, he attended St. Matthew’s Elementary School and was a 1961 graduate of Kensington High School.

Enlisting in the Navy, he served for six years and was assigned to the USS Jamestown, a technical research ship. He was a communications specialist and, while in the Navy, learned to speak fluent Russian.

Returning from service, he attended the University at Buffalo on the GI Bill, earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and became a certified public accountant.

Mr. Karneth was former controller of City Mattress and was a regional CPA manager for several firms. He also maintained his own accounting and tax preparation practice in his home.

He attended the Chapel at Crosspoint and took part in its men’s prayer group. He was active with a Christian outreach group for the deaf, Signed With Love, running the sound for its performances and managing its business affairs.

He also enjoyed vacations by car in the U.S. and Canada.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Annette Testa; a daughter, Kathleen; three brothers, Thomas, Arthur and Richard; a sister, Rosemary Beidle; and a grandson.

A memorial service will be arranged.
