Doris H. Aldrich, 96, of Williamsville (formerly of Binghamton), died peacefully on July 3, 2016, following a short illness. She was predeceased by Walter B. Aldrich, her beloved husband of 65 years. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Holly and James Thompson of Williamsville and Laurel and Gregory Whitney of Salem, NH; four grandchildren and their spouses, Timothy (the late Tracey) Thompson, Lisa Thompson (Sean) Bennett, Jessica Whitney (Todd) Moody, and Melissa Whitney (Mark) Lucia; six great-grandchildren, Jillian Grace Bennett, Matthew Sean Bennett, Lauren Ann Bennett, Haley Michelle Thompson, Olivia Noelle Moody, Ava Whitney Lucia, and several cousins.
She, also, was pre-deceased by her parents, Charles E. and Lillian T. Hayward of Waterbury, CT, and Binghamton in 1983-84.
Doris was a 1942 graduate of Syracuse (NY) University, majoring in journalism and English. In 1942 and 1943, she was employed in the news department at IBM, Endicott. She married Walter, also a Syracuse University graduate, in Salt Lake City, UT, August 20, 1943.
Doris was in charge of the Girl Scout troops of the South Side of Binghamton in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Doris and Walter both enjoyed gardening, music, and travel, having visited all seven continents. Both were volunteers with the former BC Pops, the Tri-Cities Opera, and the Binghamton Philharmonic.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
