Buffalo News Obituary
Sept. 4, 1928 - Feb. 8, 2019

Edward C. Driscoll, who was assistant manager in the Buffalo district office of the Social Security Administration when he retired in 1990, died Friday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Amherst, after a short illness. He was 90.

Mr. Driscoll, an Amherst resident, was born in Syracuse and raised in Auburn. He earned a bachelor's degree at Holy Cross College.

In 1954, Mr. Driscoll moved to Buffalo to attend graduate school at Canisius College, where he earned a master's degree in education.

He also met the former Rita M. Devine, whom he married July 2, 1955, just before Mr. Driscoll entered the Army after being drafted. He served in the Counter Intelligence Corps from 1955 to 1957.

After his discharge, he joined the Social Security Administration's Buffalo office. He became its assistant manager in 1980 and retired from the agency a decade later.

An active Catholic layman, Mr. Driscoll was a charter member of St. Gregory the Great Church in Amherst, where he was a lector for more than 30 years. At various times he sang in the choir, taught religious education and belonged to the Parish Council's education advisory committee.

After his retirement, Mr. Driscoll volunteered with Literacy Volunteers and the Amherst Food Shuttle.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, survivors include two sons, Thomas E. and Michael C.; a daughter, Molly A. Kunka; and eight grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 5480 Main St., Williamsville.
