August 22, 2009. Age 64 of Clarence. Thoughtful and caring husband of 33 years to Grace M. (Gay Bowman); most caring and loving father of James C. (Claire DeBergalis) Mondello; devoted son of Charles L. and Anna T. Mondello; cherished brother of Patricia A. (Kirk) Webster; kind son-in-law of Ray and Grace Bowman; dear brother-in-law, uncle, relative and friend. Family will be present Monday 7-9 PM and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at (Tonawanda Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 2600 Sheridan Dr. (at Parker), where prayers will be held Wednesday at 10:45 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Benedict RC Church. Jim was born in Buffalo and attended School #19. He was a graduate of Hutch-Tech High School, and the University of Buffalo, where he received his BS and MS degrees. Jim was a Vietnam War Veteran performing blood studies for Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was a professor of Anatomy and Physiology for 33 years at Erie Community College North, where he was twice recognized as Teacher of the Year on the North Campus. An extremely knowledgeable and well-liked instructor, he was awarded the NY State Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching. He served as Faculty Advisor to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on the North Campus. As a treasured and much-loved teacher, he was often asked by the graduating Nursing students to be the main speaker at their Pinning Ceremonies. After retiring, he was honored with the title of Professor Emeritus. Jim was actively involved in the Clarence community. He was a member of the Clarence Men's Softball League and for many years was a coach for his son's Clarence House League Soccer and Baseball teams. He and his wife were involved members of the Clarence High School Band Boosters. Jim and Gay traveled extensively with Europe, Costa Rica, Alaska and Hawaii being some of their travel highlights. Jim will be greatly missed by his family, friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers and donations, please honor Jim by doing what he loved most: make wonderful memories with loved ones.
