Joan Kowalski of Lancaster, NY went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 21, 2018, surrounded by her family. A resident of Harris Hill Nursing Facility, she was 92. Joan was born on October 3, 1925 in Manchester, England. In 1945 she married American soldier, Henry Kowalski, and moved to Western New York. She is survived by her children, Elaine (William) Hartnett, Linda (John) Grime, and Kenneth. She is also survived by granddaughter, Kim (Chris) Fischer; great-grandson, Mitchell Fischer and surviving sister, Ann Lawless. Joan is predeceased by her husband, Henry (2010) and her grandson, Scott Okonczak (1990). Joan was a bookkeeper and worked at Rech Photos, MSN Supplies, Twin Fair, Erie Scientific, Magtrol, and the food service department of Cheektowaga-Sloan Schools. Before leaving England, Joan founded the American War Brides Group. Later she was founder and leader of Girl Scout Troop 795 of Cheektowaga. Joan also volunteered for many years at the West Seneca Developmental Center. She was an active member of Bowmansville United Methodist Church. The family will be present on Friday, January 26th, from 3-8 PM at the (Lancaster-Depew Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 6050 Transit Road in Depew. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Adalbert Cemetery Chapel, 6200 Broadway, Lancaster on Saturday, January 27th, at 9 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, WNY Chapter, 2805 Wherle Dr. Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221. Please share condolences at
