Obituary

MURPHY, Joseph V., Jr.
August 8, 2019 at age 82, Joe has passed from this life and has joined his beloved Patty with our Lord. Beloved husband of the late Patricia K. (nee Kenslea) Murphy; devoted father of Joseph V. (Laura) Murphy, Timothy M. Murphy, Maureen M. (James) Billotte and the late Kathleen M. Murphy; loving grandfather of Patrick J. Murphy, Erin (Malcolm) Henderson, Ryan Murphy and Carmen Giambra; great-grandfather of Isaiah Henderson; dear brother of the late Georgina (Dominic) M. Milone; also survived by nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 6th, from 6-8 PM at the (Amherst Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5200 Sheridan Drive (at Hopkins Rd.). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday September 7th, 10:30 AM at St. Gregory the Great Church. All are asked to assemble at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canisius College or St. Gregory the Great Church. Share condolences at www.AMIGONE.com

Born and raised in north Buffalo, Joe attended Canisius High School and Canisius College. He met his future wife, and partner in crime, Patricia Kenslea, thru a mutual friend at Niagara University. They had a home in North Tonawanda, then Williamsville where they raised their 4 children.
Joe was an extrovert: Anyone who spent 5 minutes with him learned that he loved to talk, loved to tell stories.
He enjoyed sports, especially boating, hockey and curling. He loved to watch his children, then grandchildren at the hockey rink, field hockey and football fields or the baseball diamond. Then spoiling the grand-dogs with treats after the game!
A lifetime member of the Buffalo Canoe Club, he was honored to be skipper of Burgee. The family learned to skate at the Buffalo Curling Club, and traveled in Ontario for curling.
He was at Lancaster speedway watching his good friend, John Julicher short-track racing. He loved the airshow at the National Warplane museum in Geneseo, NY
He logged many miles on the thruway covering western New York for Progressive Packaging, then for his company, Murpack.
In retirement, Joe and Pat were able to enjoy the winter in Florida, where he would volunteer at the Honda Classic. He also worked at the LPGA tournament in Rochester.
Patty took care of Joe for the first 50 years of their marriage, and at her time of need, Joe was able to care for Patty when the Alzheimer changed everything. Five months after her passing, Joe is now at peace with Patty.
