GORMLEY - Mary D. (nee Lenahan)
Formerly of Buffalo, NY, passed away in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on January 21, 2018; beloved wife of the late Charles J. Gormley; loving daughter of the late Frank D. and Teresa V. (nee Hinchy) Lenahan; predeceased by siblings Francis "Frank" Lenahan and her twin brother, John J. (late Mildred) Lenahan; she will be sadly missed by many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will be present to receive friends Saturday from 10-11 AM at Christ the King Church, 30 Lamarck Dr., Amherst, NY 14226, where a Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11 AM. Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends invited. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Gormley's memory to D'Youville College at 320 Porter Ave, Buffalo, NY 14201. Mary Dorothy Gormley, a retired rehabilitation counselor, died Sunday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she had been a resident for the past 33 years. She was 98.

Born and raised in South Buffalo, the former Mary Lenahan attended St. Teresa’s School and South Park High School. She graduated from D’Youville College in 1941.

Mrs. Gormley worked for 33 years in the Buffalo Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, retiring in 1975. She was named State Employee of the Year in 1966 by the Government Employees Corp. of Buffalo.

She served as a delegate for the Civil Service Employees Association from 1945 to 1975 and was president of the Buffalo Chapter in 1964-65. She also was former president of CSEA Local 903 Retirees.

She was an officer in the Western Chapter, National Rehabilitation Association, and the Buffalo Catholic Business Women’s Club. She served for many years on the board of directors of Mercy Hospital.

Known for her colorful personality and sense of style, she enjoyed cruises and drinking champagne. She and her husband of 51 years, Charles J., who died in 2000, commanded the dance floor at every party.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 in Christ the King Catholic Church, 30 Lamarck Drive, Snyder.
