Buffalo News Obituary
Aug. 8, 1930 - Oct. 27, 2017

Theresa V. Grieco, who supported her husband’s work as head of the O-CEL-O sponge division of General Mills, died Friday in Ashburn, Va., after a lengthy illness. She was 87.

Born in Clifton, Kan., the former Theresa Virginia Sorell was the third of four girls. After World War II, she came to Buffalo to help her oldest sister and husband with their first child.

Her brother-in-law introduced her to Joseph W. Grieco, a World War II veteran studying biology and chemistry at the University of Buffalo. They were married following his graduation in 1950 and she worked for a few years as a keypunch operator at Buffalo Savings Bank.

After her sons were in college, Mrs. Grieco accompanied her husband on numerous international sales trips and company functions. They were supporters of the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross and Studio Arena Theatre. She also funded scholarships for college students needing help with tuition.

Following her husband’s death in 2012, she moved from Orchard Park to Virginia to be with her son, Jeffrey, and his family.

Survivors include two sons, David M. and Jeffrey J.; a sister, Maxine Richards; and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1085 Englewood Ave., Town of Tonawanda.
